Our eyes can see Indigo colors at once. While being in the desert one of the guides explained how blue is the only color on distance that you can trust hence a lot use this color as their scarf to shadow the sun and as their traditional “poncho”. When arriving at Chefchaouen -better known as “The Blue City” Indigo is the color your eyes will see. Before arriving in the city, the blue houses in the old part of the city are easily seen. After entering the small gate of Bab El Ain that leads into the small streets of the Blue City you arrive at a touristy place. The first street is like a Souk with small shops on each site. The streets are going up the hill. All narrow until to the square Uta el Hamman where the castle Kasbah built in a Portuguese style is located. By continuing op the small indigo streets. The colours change depending on the house and street. From time to time the streets become like labyrinths where it is all about getting lost and being open to explore the indigo blue on the houses, doors, and windows.

At the Plaza El Hauta is a water fountain placed in the middle. The square is open, but still small. It reminds me of some open squares in Sevilla and the cities of the south of Spain.

A word can have different meanings. The same can be said to be the case with color. Blue is not just blue, indigo is not just indigo - without knowing some newly painted houses have a deep indigo blue color, while some houses that seem to be painted some time ago are lighter. The blue often gives contrast to white, which gives references to the Ocean even though no sea is to be seen in hours' distance.

Visiting out of season can have its benefits - even though the temperature is around 37 degrees Celsius and the skies are blue, the amount of people visiting today is not too much, meaning that it is possible to walk down some of the side alleys to explore the indigo color here.

Chefchaouen is a four-hour bus ride from Fez. Today is just a short day trip. The landscape between Fez and Chefchaouen is full of fields, many have been producing corn to which the yellow color of the ground is being intensified. Colors can influence our mood, Colors can change due to the light of the day. The Blue City allows exploring not only the atmosphere in Chefchaouen but also it allows exploring different variances of Indigo Blue.
