“The wine tasting”

America is the cars country. If you didn’t know that you just have to be in the states for a short time, to see how big there roads are and how American things about distance. It is defiantly not the same as how many Danes count distance. This I found out, when I got the suggestion of going to Austin for a day trip because it should be a nice city. A trip that only takes 3,5 hours each way…

Because of the distance Mads and I decided not to go to Austin, instead we decided to go on a winery-road trip around Houston. A little bit to the north of Houston is there at leas seven wineries located. After a good American breakfast at Denny’s where we heading north to the Bernhardt Winery nearly 55 miles north of Houston. On the tour you could fill how relaxed this Saturday was on the three-lined road. After nearly an hour the road became smaller and finally we were heading of on a small one-lane road with fields on both sides of the car when a lonely oil pump are getting visible between some trees. At this time can you really fill that we know are in the real Texas.

By arriving to the first winery out of four this day is there no excuses not to taste some wines. The temperature has just reach 40 degrees Celsius and we are standing just next to the wine stocks. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and warm, when we enter the winery. We are picking four different wines for tasting. We even tasted a wine, which had been put on bottles only a few weeks before, if this was the reason why I found the taste a bit difficult to explain might be the reason.

One down, only three to go.

As earlier noted the distance is different from the Danish mind set so what only look like a few miles away on the map to the next winery turned out to be around 35 miles. The second winery was Peach Creek Vineyards where we founded their dessert wine interesting. By arriving to the third winery can you see that this one is the biggest one so far. At the parking lane is there a bus and by entering their entrains is there full of people. While we taste some wines are our waiter telling us that this is the first time that it has been so busy. We had a good conversation with her. She wanted to know a little bit about Denmark since she was planning on going to Copenhagen next year.

While we are working in the stocks is it possible to see how the water from the water systems are falling down over the grabs. The grabs are looking good, but a bit small. The grabs in Texas are usually small which is the reason why they often need to buy grabs from other states to make their wines.

When you say US, you also say Donut, so on our way to your last winery, Cork This! Winery in Montgomery we got some new energy from some Donuts. Since Cork This! Winery is located on the big road in Montgomery are do no wine stocks just around. The shop looked more like a usually special wine shop, where it was possible to bye wines, tastings and souvenirs. From here we still had nearly 1 hours driving before we were back home and our last day in Texas was gone. There is many ways to fill freedom, but driving on this big streets with so many lanes, the sun in the horizon and a lake on your left side can only make you understanding why some people love to cross this huge country with a car.
